Petition for Sony Records to Drop R. Kelly Reaches 200,000 Signatures
As we reported earlier in the week, RCA/ Sony records has halted any more work with the embattled R&B singer, R. Kelly. But now, advocacy groups and concerned citizens want the label to drop Kells altogether.
Earlier today (Jan 16th) dozens of protests groups infuriated by the “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary gathered outside of Sony Music Entertainment’s HQ in New York City and demanded that the label drop the “child rapist” and forgo any more business with him. They already have over 200,000 signatures of support on their petition.
Groups such as #MuteRKelly, Black Women’s Blueprint, Care2, Color of Change, CREDO, Girls for Gender Equity, NOW-NYC and UltraViolet’s “Rally to Protect Black Girls” were all in attendance and demanded that Sony drops R. Kelly. The groups also want to present RCA/ Sony Records with the “Record Label of Shame” award.
RCA/ Sony have not made any comments regarding this protest.
